XVI Meeting of the Information Centers Association



Within the framework of CLADEA 2019, the XVI Meeting of the Association of Directors of Latin American Information Centers of CLADEA was held in Lima from October 27 to 30.

The event was organized with the support of Altamira, Group of Peruvian Academic Libraries, and had as its central theme: "Fourth industrial revolution: challenge and opportunities for academic and research libraries" developed at the University of Lima.


On Monday 28, the inauguration was held with the words of Ms. Nelly Casas Pastor, director of the Library of the University of Lima, Ms. Cecilia Alegre, coordinator of the CLADEA Information Centers Group and Mr. Miguel Saravia López de Castilla, President of the Altamira Group. Then, the Conversational  "Fourth Industrial Revolution: challenges and opportunities for academic and research libraries" was held , where Dr. Gonzalo Alegría Varona (Centrum PUCP), Dr. Jaime Castro (ULima), Dr. Guillermo Quiroga (UPC), Dr. César Guadalupe (UP) and Mgtr. Sergio Cuervo (ESAN)  shared their views on the role that university libraries play on the stage of the fourth industrial revolution.

Nelly Casas Pastor presented the project for the construction of a new 15,000 m² library with a capacity for 2,500 users, which is part of the Master Plan developed by the Sasaki company. Likewise, the Table of good practices in academic libraries was developed ”, moderated by Cecilia Alegre, Coordinator of the CLADEA Information Centers Group.

The next day, the keynote lecture was held: "The role of information centers and libraries in the research of universities and business schools", by Dr. Valentina Gomes Haensel Schmitt, teacher and researcher at the University of Lima. For its part, the presentation: "Latin America and its look at academic research", was in charge of the Mgtr. Eva Flores, dean of the College of Librarians of Peru.

The "Digital Transformation" conversation was attended by Dr. María Emma Mannarelli Cavagnari, institutional head of the National Library of Peru; Dr. Andrés Melgar Sasieta, Concytec; Mgtr. Jorge Bossio Montes de Oca, of the UPC, and Benito Juárez, of Fab Lab Peru; also highlighted was  the realization of the workshop for Library Directors: Business Intelligence, by Mgtr. Mario César Aguirre Guardia, of the San Ignacio de Loyola University (USIL) and the Altamira Assembly

Finally, during the Joint Meeting of the Group, it was agreed that the XVII Meeting of the Group will not be held within the framework of the CLADEA 2020 Assembly, but in the city of Vienna, Austria, from May 11 to 14. The host institution will be the University of Vienna Economy & Business.
