Dr. Magalie Marais joined Montpellier Business School in November 2011. She holds a Doctorate in Management Science from the University Aix-en-Provence (2011) and is now Associate Professor. Her research is mainly focused on Strategic Management & Corporate Social Responsibility. She is involved in academic and consulting activities in these fields. Her other topics of interests are Governance, Sustainable Development, Public Management and Innovation. She received two PhD awards for her Doctoral dissertation in the field of corporate social responsibility: in 2012 the French Fondation Nationale pour l’Enseignement de la Gestion des Entreprises (FNEGE) national award and the Association pour le Développement de l’Enseignement et de la Recherche sur la Responsabilité Sociale de l’Entreprise (ADERSE) PhD award. She presented her work at various conferences (International Council of Small Business, Finance and Corporate Governance Conference, Association Internationale de Management Stratégique, l’Association pour le Développement de l’Enseignement et de la Recherche sur la Responsabilité Sociale de l’Entreprise, l’Institut de Socio-Economie des Entreprises et des Organisations, Congrès du Réseau International de Recherche sur les Organisations et le Développement Durable, etc.). In 2012 she received the best paper award of at the ADERSE conference. Her research is published in national and international journals such as Journal of Business Ethics, European Management Review, Corporate Governance: An International Review, M@n@gement, Management International, Revue Sciences de Gestion, etc.

BUSINESS EDUCATION IN AFRICA: BETWEEN UNIVERSAL FIT AND LOCAL RELEVANCE

Today's world is faced with severe challenges. Poor and emerging countries are especially hit by the externalities of economic transitions, deep social fractures, and climate change threats. African economies, although rich in natural resources, represent some of the most affected regions. In general, African economies do not create enough wealth to meet the pressing social and environmental challenges in terms of job creation, food security, education, healthcare, and human development. A paradigm shift has become necessary to overcome these structural issues and lay the foundation for inclusive and sustainable growth. The aim of the presentation is to shed light on the relevance of Business Schools in Africa and their capacity to adapt their research and curricula to the communities they serve. Special attention is devoted to the case of Francophone-Africa’s leading Business School: ESCA Ecole de Management.

SPEAKER BIO

Majid Kaissar EL GHAIB is Professor and Head of the “Social Innovation & Sustainability Institute” at ESCA Ecole de Management. With his long experience in management, he lectures and conducts research on various themes such as “Business Ethics”, “Sustainability & CSR”, and “Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship”. He is also President of Enactus Morocco, a non-profit whose mission is to promote social progress through entrepreneurial action. Dr. El Ghaib holds a Ph.D. from MIT and engineering degrees from Ecole Centrale de Lyon and Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (France). He began his professional career as a consultant for large sustainable projects in the USA and Morocco. He then served as CEO of the Moroccan National Fisheries Office, implementing sustainable projects to modernize and develop the local fishing industry.

COOPERATION AND SPECIALITIES OF EUROPEAN BUSINESS SCHOOLS IN EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABILITY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The presentation aims to provide reasoning why education for sustainability is crucial in business schools. "Universality" will be illustrated by a European best practice in teaching global climate change strategy, conducted in cooperation of 10 CEMS business schools, combining a master course with a two-day long roleplay, modelling the UNFCCC climate summits. "Diversity" will be illustrated by showing special solutions across Europe, focusing on the most pressing issues of sustainability and social responsibility. Main trends will be identified and justified.

SPEAKER BIO

Dr. Ágnes Zsóka is Professor of the Institute of Marketing at Corvinus University of Budapest (CUB). Her main research and teaching areas include sustainable consumer behaviour, corporate sustainability and corporate social responsibility, education for sustainability, and implications of climate change in corporate practice. She has been teaching in English and German in the flagship international study programs of the university for the last 20 years.

Additionally, she is Program Director of the Doctoral School of Business and Management since 2006, and, at the same time Director of the German speaking Management Education Centre at Corvinus University, since 2016.

As the fifth-largest economy globally and home to most global supply chains, Indian companies have to adopt the international standards and norms that govern responsible business. At the same time, the communities make demands on them, which are local. Teaching executives and MBA students to manage dual realities poses unique challenges. In the session, I will draw upon my teaching experiences within these tensions.  Designing responsible business training through the lens of inclusive leadership has helped to navigate the pressures effectively.

Professor Vasanthi Srinivasan is a Professor in the Organizational Behaviour and HRM area at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. She was the ICCR Chair Professor of Corporate Responsibility and Governance at the HHL School of Management, Leipzig, Germany in 2012-2013. She was a British Council Visiting Scholar at the International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility at the Nottingham University Business School in 2007. She was a member of the Uday Kotak Committee on Corporate Governance set up by Securities Exchange Board of India in 2017. She has been a member of the Working Group on Business and Human Rights set up by National Human Rights Commission, India and a member of the Advisory Group of the NAP on Business and Human Rights in 2020. She is an Executive Committee Member of the International Society of Business, Economics & Ethics (ISBEE). Her research interests are Women on Boards, Business and Human Rights and HRM in rapidly growth context.

Julianna Ramírez Cuenta con un Doctorado en Comunicaciones y Executive Media MBA por la Universidad de Navarra, España. Es Magister en Gestión Social de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú - PUCP, cursó un posgrado en Comunicación Corporativa de la Universidad ESAN y una Licenciatura en Comunicaciones de la Universidad de Lima, Perú.
Actualmente, es Directora de Comunicación y Sostenibilidad, Profesora e Investigadora en CENTRUM PUCP Business School.
